September was a productive month at AMTCE, with a strong focus on industry engagement, learner opportunities and the continued promotion of skills for advanced manufacturing.

From national events and school outreach to new evening provision, cybersecurity initiatives and preparations for the first Robotics and Automation Apprenticeship, the month highlighted AMTCE’s ongoing role in supporting innovation, workforce development and future skills across the region.

AMTCE Opens the Doors for Ibec’s Manufacturing Day Ireland

Manufacturing Day Ireland is an Ibec national campaign that provides behind-the-scenes access to industry and opens a window into high-tech innovation hubs. The initiative showcases the manufacturing sector and the opportunities available for highly skilled jobs and diverse career pathways.

AMTCE was delighted to participate in the day with an open day event, providing tours and showcasing to the public the range of high-tech advanced manufacturing training opportunities available in the centre.

AMTCE Represented at WorldSkills Ireland in the RDS

There was strong interest in AMTCE’s stand over the three days of WorldSkills Ireland at the RDS. With AMTCE training robots and cobots on display, the Robotics and Automation Apprenticeship attracted strong interest from attendees.

The event provided an excellent opportunity to promote careers in robotics and automation, highlight the apprenticeship pathway into advanced manufacturing, share information about electrical apprenticeship opportunities and showcase AMTCE’s range of short courses in robotics.

AMTCE Evening Provision

AMTCE announced a new schedule of evening training provision for the first time. Providing some of our popular courses in the evening will offer greater flexibility for employees who want to upskill or reskill while remaining in employment, and for learners who may find daytime provision difficult to access.

Preparing for emerging AI Cyber Threats – AMTCE courses mentioned in Irish Times

AMTCE cyber training provider Eimear Murphy from REIM Solutions was quoted in an Irish Times article. Eimear emphasised the critical need for robust defences as AI transforms industry. AMTCE delivers practical cybersecurity training that equips professionals to protect connected manufacturing environments against evolving threats.

Preparations Continued for the first Robotics and Automation Apprenticeship (RAA)

Throughout September, the RAA Programme Manager visited companies to discuss their current robotics and automation capabilities, their plans for future development, and the skills required to support their operations. These engagements provided valuable opportunities to explore how the new apprenticeship can align with individual company needs and help employers develop a dedicated pipeline of skilled Robotics and Automation Technicians.

As robotics and automation continue to play an increasingly important role in advanced manufacturing, developing the right technical skills is essential. The RAA offers employers an opportunity to invest in their future workforce by combining structured off-the-job training with practical, on-the-job experience within the company.

CyberQuest

AMTCE was delighted to host CyberQuest for the second time on 30 September. CyberQuest is a PeacePlus initiative that provides participants with an engaging and hands-on introduction to cybersecurity, using interactive and challenge-based activities to develop problem-solving, teamwork and critical-thinking skills while exploring practical cybersecurity concepts. The additional date provided another opportunity for participants to experience cybersecurity and learn more about training and career opportunities within this rapidly developing sector.

Inspiring the Next Generation at De La Salle College, Dundalk

The RAA Programme Manager and the SOLAS Training Advisor visited De La Salle College in Dundalk to speak with a group of more than 50 Leaving Certificate students and career guidance teachers about apprenticeship opportunities.

The session introduced students to apprenticeships as a route into skilled employment, with a particular focus on the National Robotics and Automation Apprenticeship. The presentation generated an excellent level of engagement, with students asking questions about entry requirements, academic progression opportunities and the all-important question of earning potential following qualification.

These events reflect our continued commitment to developing a highly skilled, future-ready workforce through hands-on training, collaboration and innovation.
